Process Control

Securicor Express

A market leader in handling customer logistics, Securicor Omega Express recently faced solving a massive logistical exercise of its own, with a plan to develop part of an ex-World War Two airfield site in Hatfield into one of Europe’s largest and most advanced computer controlled parcel distribution hubs.

Designed from the outset to work as an integrated security, site management and most importantly - process control observation system, the task of supplying the sophisticated surveillance system was assigned to CCTV and Access Control specialist, Quadrant Video Systems.

Securicor’s demanding brief was met by a Quadrant solution that in turn reflected the massive size of the hub project itself. The £30 million, quarter mile long building employs an in-house designed automated parcel sorting process that uses either pre-labelled bar codes, or voice recognition, to identify, size and weigh a constant stream of incoming parcels. Once assessed, a computer controlled sorting process allocates a ‘transport space’ along the miles of multi-level conveyor belt distribution system, for automatic parcel routing to the parcel’s designated out-going despatch bay.
