'Rapid Deployment' Cameras cut crime in Mansfield
Since 1996, CCTV has been an invaluable tool in the fight against crime in Mansfield, where a network of 144 Quadrant Video Systems installed fully functional and fixed cameras are linked via fibre optic cables to a central control room. Instigated as part of government initiatives to cut the level of antisocial behaviour on town center and neigbourhood streets, Mansfield District Council decided to investigate radio-based ‘rapid deployment’ cameras to tackle the problem in their area. Importantly, central funding was available for this technology which could be implemented at a fraction of the cost of traditional fixed camera solutions. After a three-week trial where the technology was thoroughly tested, Quadrant specified MEL Secure Systems’ ‘Street Hawk’ cameras to supplement the existing CCTV network. As well as delivering high-quality images using reliable and stable transmission over license exempt radio frequency bands, the Street Hawk camera provides some additional advantages over other systems. Uniquely, a standard feature is the camera’s secure ‘cut and rotate’ encryption technology; used to comply with the Data Protection Act and ensure that unauthorised individuals cannot monitor transmissions. The extremely robust, shotgun resistant, Street Hawk is also the only camera system to include two infrared fittings, one wide angle and one spot, enabling the system to be used even where there is no street lighting. |
